A few weeks ago, the Spanish group Barcelo announced a €50 million expansion plan in Portugal, on the island of Madeira. This investment will support the construction of a new hotel in the historic centre of Funchal, due to open at the end of 2025 next to the Mercado dos Lavradores, as well as the takeover of one of the city's leading hotels, the Quinta Funchal Palace Garden, which will close for renovation work in order to become part of the five-star Royal Hideaway brand by 2026.
While the Mallorcan hotel group has recently opened other hotels outside its original borders in Warsaw and Ljubljana, Barcelo has confirmed that it will continue to expand its network of hotels in the region. its desire to expand in Europe by unveiling another major project, this time in Rome. Here too, the Group is giving itself the means to expand in the continent's major cities by investing 60 million euros to acquire the Midas Palace Hotel, a four-star establishment focused on MICE with its 350 rooms and, above all, its vast convention centre.

Located on Via Aurelia, this hotel dates back to the early 1970s and features 17 meeting rooms which can accommodate a total of 1,300 people, including 700 in its main hall. What's more, its location a little way from the centre of the Italian capital means that the venue has extensive gardens and a large swimming pool, as well as a bar and restaurant. " Barceló's aim is to reposition the hotel after a thorough renovation in order to make it a leading venue for events and congresses in Rome." explains the hotel group.
The development of the Spanish group should not stop there, as it recently announced its intention toinvest 400 million euros to accelerate its growth in the Africa-Middle East-Turkey region, with openings expected in Manama in Bahrain, Al Jaddaf in the Emirates, and Casablanca, Rabat and Tangiers in Morocco.
