A tough day ahead at Brussels Zaventem airport on 1 October. Due to a national movement of a majority of staff at the external security service provider, theBrussels airport expects to be almost deserted this day.
To ensure the safety of passengers and staff, the airlines, in consultation with the airport, will NOT be operating any departing flights. Please note that pickets will gather at the airport entrance in particular. This is likely to cause traffic jams for the few daredevils who still want to get to the airport!
On arrival, some of the scheduled flights may take place. Nevertheless, the airport is expecting a large number of cancellations. Passengers planning to arrive at Brussels Airport on 1 October should therefore check the status of their flight with their airline or on the airport website.
The demands of the security staff relate to overwork, poor maintenance of the workplaces and overpriced transport, with insufficient dedicated parking. Staff are also complaining about the lack of places to rest during their breaks.
