Since 2 August, it has linked Johannesburg to Pretoria in just 42 minutes and at eight stations (Park, Sandton, Marlboro, Hatfield, etc.). In this highly urbanised area, however, train speeds do not exceed 160 kph on this dedicated line.
The North South Link is in fact the second Gautrain line, being connected at Sandton with the East West Link, which was brought into service in 2010 to coincide with the football World Cup. It takes 15 minutes to reach O.R. Tambo airport. These lines are operated by a subsidiary of the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP).
