Business travellers in Marseille will soon be able to take advantage of an upgraded tram network, with the adoption of a project to extend the line between La Canebière and Place Castellane. On Friday, the city council and the Marseille Provence Métropole (MPM) conurbation approved a preliminary project expected to cost €42 million, but which is not due to see the light of day for a few years yet. Local officials have decided to wait until the end of 2013 before starting work, so as not to interfere with events scheduled to take place in the European Capital of Culture. Other developments are planned for the longer term, notably to improve services to Marseille airport.
