Ever more powerful iPhones, the thinnest iPhone yet: Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17 at its traditional and eagerly awaited keynote, responding to the new products presented by its competitors, the Samsung S25 or Google Pixel 10. Available from 19 September, these new smartphones are priced very much the same as their predecessors, ranging from €969 to €1,479. In terms of design, the iPhone 17s are as polished as ever, with no major revolution, apart from a number of improvements, including enhanced shock resistance thanks to Ceramic Shield 2 protection on the front.
The main changes are on the inside, with the latest version of the iOS 26 operating system and a new A19 chipchip, combined with 8GB of RAM for the A19 chip and 12GB of RAM for the A19 Pro chip. This means that all models are faster than their predecessors. At the same time, the increased capacity of the battery means that it takes less time to use and recharge.
Another development presented for the iPhone 17 range, Apple simplifies group selfies with its new 18-megapixel front-facing photo sensor, Center Stage, which incorporates an automated framing function. The shot is automatically enlarged or reduced depending on the number of people present. This use of AI supports one of the most practical features for business travellers, Apple Intelligence, which enables you to translate in real time text and audio in real time, making it easier to communicate via the Messages, FaceTime and Phone applications.
As for the special features of the different models, the iPhone's screen - the Super Retina XDR - has been enlarged from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, while also being brighter. At the same time, its storage capacity has been increased to 256GB for the first time. And its battery life has been increased by two hours, to all-day use. " iPhone 17 is a major upgrade, packed with powerful features that make iPhone even more useful in everyday life "said Kaiann Drance, vice-president of iPhone product marketing worldwide.
The top models, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, have Super Retina XDR screens measuring 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively, and both feature an A19 Pro chip. For higher performance in terms of photo and video in particular, supported by three 48-megapixel Fusion sensors. " The iPhone 17 Pro is by far the most powerful iPhone we've ever designed, with a breathtaking new design that's been completely rethought to optimise performance and offer significantly improved autonomy. "said Greg Joswiak, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.
An air of novelty
But the other big news to emerge from Apple's keynote was the appearance in the range of a brand new model, the iPhone 17 Air. This is the thinnest smartphone in the world, measuring just 5.6mm thick, compared with 5.7mm for Samsung's S25 Edge released last spring. This trend towards thinness has had some impact on the iPhone Air's performance, with reduced autonomy - compensated for by the MagSafe external battery, which costs €229 - and the presence of a single rear camera. But the system remains powerful, with a 48-megapixel main sensor and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, plus the Center Stage front-facing sensor for selfie addicts.
The iPhone 17 Air's performance isn't based on hot air, as it's also backed up by the A19 Pro chip. "The all-new iPhone Air is so powerful, yet incredibly thin and light, you have to hold it in your hand to believe it, boasts John Ternus, Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering. According to him, this new member of the family offers "advanced features that our users will love (...), all in a revolutionary design that feels like you're holding the future in your hands." Note that the IPhone Air is the only one in France - and Europe - to switch to virtual eSIM, while all models have it in North America and many countries in Asia and the Middle East.
Alongside these new smartphones, Apple has also unveiled the Apple Watch Series 11, which is also the thinnest ever designed by the Apple brand, and offers longer battery life. But business travellers will be particularly interested in another development, the latest generation of wireless headphones. AirPods Pro 3. In addition to the promise of active noise reduction that is four times more effective than the previous model and health-related heart rate monitoring, the AirPods Pro 3, which start at €249, feature AI to offer mobile professionals a near-instantaneous translation solution for communicating in a foreign language.
