The revival of a legend. Since 1828, the Hotel Danieli has hosted notable figures visiting Venice, from Balzac, Proust, Goethe, and Dickens in their time, to Callas, Greta Garbo, and Sophia Loren later on, and more recently, Nelson Mandela, François Mitterrand, and George Clooney. Located just steps away from the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Square, overlooking the lagoon from the Riva degli Schiavoni, this global hospitality legend will reclaim its place after an extensive renovation phase to become part of the Four Seasons group.
Its takeover was announced just before summer 2022, with the Canadian group set to succeed Marriott and its Luxury Collection. This choice transfer will be effective on 26 August, initially with 120 rooms and suites entirely redesigned by interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. An accommodation offering set to expand in 2027 to comprise a total of 176 rooms, including 79 suites – the former often being able to connect to each other – compared to 200 rooms before the hotel's closure.
Partially housed in a 15th-century palacee built in the 13th century for Doge Enrico Dandolo, converted into a hotel in the 19th century by Giuseppe Dal Niel – hence its name – the Danieli had already undergone major works with a first extension in 1855 and the addition of the neighbouring Palazzo Casa Nuova, completed by a new wing in the 1950s, the Palazzo Danieli Excelsior. It will soon enter a new era by becoming The Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel.
While the historical splendour remains, with restoration having highlighted the original architecture and the richness of Venetian materials such as marble, Murano glass and Rubelli fabrics, the hotel has adopted a contemporary elegance to welcome affluent tourists in a unique setting. Notably, a spa will be opening by the end of the year, featuring three treatment rooms, including one for couples, as well as a sauna and a steam room.
But the Danieli is also a prime venue for exclusive professional gatherings. For these purposes, the hotel has 848 m² of modular spaces for hosting meetings, events, and private dinners, or VIP incentive trips. Within this setting, the lobby of the historic Palazzo Dandolo can accommodate banquets for around fifty guests or cocktails for over 200 people.
The hotel also has two lounges for receptions, conferences or executive meetings, while the Doge Dandolo Royal Suite is suitable for intimate professional gatherings as well as receptions for up to 150 guests. Perched on the top floor, the Terrazza Danieli Restaurant also makes use of its interiors and exteriors to host events with an unparalleled view of Venice.
