Companies and their travelers accustomed to traveling across Scandinavia and the British Isles will undoubtedly be sensitive to this information that has been circulating since the summer of 2025: the leader of the hotel industry in Northern Europe, Scandic, has officially finalized the acquisition of the Irish group Dalata Hotel. With 250 hotels in Scandinavia and, overall, more than 320 hotels including its establishments in Germany and Poland, Scandic is laying a solid foundation in the British Isles through this 500 million euro acquisition.

Founded in 2007 by former director of the Jurys Doyle group, Pat McCann, the Dalata group has rapidly grown around its brands Maldron, in the mid-range segment, and Clayton, for the high-end segment, to offer today 57 hotels and nearly 12,500 rooms located in most of the metropolises of Ireland and the United Kingdom. Among these, outside of these two brands, there are two boutique hotels in the Docklands of Dublin, The Gibson and The Samuel.

The fact that Dalata Hotel was purchased in 2025 by two Nordic investors, the Swedish company Pandox and the Norwegian company Eiendomsspar, undoubtedly facilitated this merger with the Scandic group. In the immediate aftermath, the two owners had entrusted Scandic with the management of the recently acquired hotels, while they had not yet integrated them into the Nordic group’s offering.

With the transfer of the operation of these establishments to Scandic finalized, this is now a reality and Scandic is seeing its portfolio of brands grow with the Maldron and Clayton brands, as well as their development projects. Dalata’s pipeline includes half a dozen upcoming hotels, notably outside the British Isles with Clayton hotels expected in Berlin, near Tiergarten, and in Madrid in the Valdebebas neighborhood near the airport and the IFEMA exhibition center. To these, are added a hotel in London, the Clayton Hotel at Old Broad Street, and another in Edinburgh.

For Jens Mathiesen, CEO of Scandic, this acquisition is an important step in the growth of his group. « Dalata’s strong position in its markets and the appeal of its hotel portfolio ideally complement our business activities. "he said.
