Iberia has opened its new Emerald Lounge Sorolla in Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas airport. It is reserved for customers with Platino, Platino Prime, Infinita, Infinita Prime and Singular status, on short and medium-haul flights departing from gates H, J, K and M.
Spanning 800 m², the new lounge is located immediately after security control and can accommodate 128 people simultaneously. Iberia includes this opening in its «Plan de Vuelo 2030», the airline's strategic roadmap, which aims notably to enhance the customer experience. The concept is based on four pillars: quality, personalised service, Spanish gastronomy and well-being.
Non-stop Spanish gastronomy
Upon arrival, dedicated staff welcome and assist customers. The culinary offering evolves throughout the day: homemade pastries, tomato bread and hot dishes in the morning, tapas and Iberian products all day long, followed by Mediterranean dishes at mealtimes. The patisserie, entrusted to the provider DO & CO, features traditional recipes such as Catalan cream, almond tart or rice pudding. A 360-degree bar continuously offers cocktails, wines, champagne and barista service. In addition, chef Ugo Chan is set to host showcooking workshops during the year.
The lounge features private suite-type cabins for resting before the flight, as well as showers. Indirect lighting, acoustics and ambient scent have also been carefully considered. Iberia states that the design of this lounge anticipates future developments for its Business cabin, scheduled for launch in 2027.
The name Sorolla is part of a company tradition of naming aircraft and two other premium lounges, Dalí and Velázquez, after Spanish artistic figures. Joaquín Sorolla, a Spanish painter from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is renowned for his depiction of light and the Mediterranean, attributes that Iberia associates with this new lounge.
