In 2014, the future Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa will become the first Marriott hotel in Sri Lanka, in the south-east of the country. It will have some 200 rooms spread over 11 floors, and aims to attract business customers with its MICE facilities, including a vast 640 m² function room. There will also be three restaurants, a fitness centre and a swimming pool.
Marriott launches MICE business in Sri Lanka
The Marriott group has formalised an agreement that will lead to the opening of its first property in Sri Lanka in two years' time, with a view to attracting customers from the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Convention, Events) market in particular.
