Choice is a luxury cherished by business travellers: a luxury they will soon be able to afford on their business trips between France and England, if the latest decision by the Intergovernmental Commission is anything to go by. The Commission has just granted Deutsche Bahn a "B Certificate" - a licence to operate a service through the Channel Tunnel. This brings the German rail company a step closer to the cross-Channel links currently operated by Eurostar. "Twenty years after its opening, the public authorities are finally opening up the Channel Tunnel to everyone," says a delighted Eurotunnel. "The Eurotunnel group also believes that "this long-awaited decision will considerably boost trade between Great Britain and Northern Europe (Germany, the Netherlands) and is expected to attract an additional 3 to 4 million passengers a year, on top of the current 10 million high-speed train passengers". It is not yet known when Deutsche Bahn will decide to launch its operations between France and the UK.
