Certify SpendSmart report: Uber overtakes taxis in expense reports

Certify, the Travel & Expense specialist, has just published its traditional SpendSmart report. The quarterly report, which examines business travellers' expense accounts, confirms the advent of the "sharing economy" in business travel. For the first time, Uber expenditure has exceeded that generated by taxis. 

The second quarter of 2015 marked a turning point in the sharing economy: for the first time, Uber's market share overtook that of taxis in the United States. 55% against 43% - according to the SpendSmart report published by Certify. This quarterly analysis of business travel expenditure also shows that San FranciscoLos Angeles, where Uber has its headquarters, is the new heavyweight's favourite playground. It is here that Uber's grip on power is most noticeable (79%), ahead of Dallas (60%) and Los Angeles (54%). In the hotel industry, Marriott dominates the debate 8.76% of the expenditure processed via Certify concerns the American hotelier, which is ahead of Hampton Inn (8.15%) and... Courtyard by Marriott (6.52%). Marriott's average spend was $243. The restaurant sector is also dominated by local heavyweights, with Starbucks (4.67%) ahead of McDonald's (2.73%) and Subway (1,65%).
