Singapore Changi terminal 4 will open its doors on 26 June, just in time to welcome the flood of passengers expected to celebrate the end of Ramadan. This new terminal will take over from the former Budget Terminal, which opened in 2006 but which the airport authorities decided to close in 2012 to make way for a brand new terminal building. It will have cost 600 million Singapore dollars (450 million euros) and, with the potential to welcome 16 million passengers, will increase the airport's capacity to 82 million passengers a year. For the record, Singapore Changi welcomed 58.7 million passengers in 2016.
The countdown has now begun. From 26 June, passengers will be able to stroll through the terminal, which will have 21 boarding gates and a passenger boarding bridge.direct access to aircraftunlike the old Budget Terminal. In addition to its many check-in counters, terminal 4 will enable travellers to complete all check-in and identity control formalities in a self-service environment. Once in the international zone, they will then have access to a 16,000 m2 shopping area featuring some 80 boutiques, restaurants and even traditional shops in a decor reminiscent of old Singapore. The terminal will also offer green spaces and relaxation areas.
Not much to do with a 'low-cost' concept, even if welcoming low-cost carriers is one of the main purposes of the terminal, which will house AirAsia Group airlinesIn addition to low-cost carriers Cebu Pacific (Philippines) and Spring Airlines (China). However, terminal 4 will also welcome flights from three traditional carriers, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air and Vietnam Airlines.
However, the metro will not reach the new terminal, but a shuttle bus will link terminal 4 to terminal 2, where there is a metro station linking the airport to the city centre in 30 minutes.
