As expected, the strike action on Thursday 5 December is paralysing much of the transport network. The SNCF describes a " rail traffic severely disrupted across the entire network ". The first disruptions began as early as Wednesday evening. And this 5 December is the peak of this national cross-industry strike, motivated by the pension reform bill. The SNCF - which estimates the strike rate à 55,6% – announces 1 in 10 trains on average on the network Transilienas for TGV and Intercités. Connections internationalwhich were relatively unaffected by the latest strikes, are also affected: 1 train out of 2 for theEurostar2 out of 3 at Thalysand 1 round trip expected for Lyria. No traffic is expected on the France-Italy (SVI) and France-Germany (Alleo) routes.
On the RATPThe results are much the same: there will be a large-scale mobilisation on 5 December, leading to major disruption. Only the two automatic metro lines (1 and 14) are expected to operate normally. The vast majority of lines (11 in total) are simply at a standstill. The three surviving lines (4, 7 and 9) will operate only during rush hour: 6.30am - 9.30am and 5pm - 8pm.
This vast strike movement will at least have the merit of putting the spotlight on the new alternatives that have appeared on the market in recent years. For example, RATP has stepped up its partnerships to offer its users preferential access to new mobility services, such as carpooling (Klaxit, Blablalines, Karos, Covoit'Ici, Ouihop), ofcar sharing Communauto, Getaround, Ubeeqo), of electric scooters (Cityscoot), or VTC (Kapten, Marcel, Heetch, Supershuttle). While there are fears of an increase in the rates charged by chauffeur-driven vehicles, the Secretary of State for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari said on Wednesday that it had " asked VTCs to limit the increase in their fares, which they accepted" . Jean-Baptiste Djebbari also indicated that taxis " are committed to encouraging shared journeys, i.e. picking up several customers on the same journey" and stresses that " The Ile-de-France region has introduced a special car-sharing scheme. [On Thursday] and in the coming days, passengers will be able to travel free of charge and drivers will be paid €4 per journey. In other French cities, platforms such as BlaBlaCar will themselves be subsidising drivers to the tune of €2 per journey." .
