American Airlines, like other airlines, is continuing to improve the benefits offered to passengers who are members of its AAdvantage programme. Until now, passengers earned two miles and frequent flyer points for every dollar spent on regular fares. From now on, they will only earn points if they buy a ticket in certain booking classes. The "Basic Economy" booking class has been eliminated.
The new policy, whichAmerican Airlines became effective immediately. It came into force on 17 December.
" We regularly evaluate our tariff products to remain competitive on the market." American Airlines said in a statement to CBS News. Customers who purchase a Basic Economy ticket on or after Dec. 17, 2025, will no longer earn AAdvantage miles or points for AAdvantage status. Basic Economy customers continue to take a free personal item and a free carry-on bag on board. They also enjoy free snacks, soft drinks and in-flight entertainment. The basic service, so to speak.
This restriction is in addition to other existing restrictions on the most reduced fares. These include free seat reservations and free itinerary changes. According to the airline's management, the disappearance of miles awarded should encourage consumers to select a higher fare. In order to benefit from a few extra advantages.
