The spirit of the place according to Slater Bradley

"My studio is in Wedding, a working-class neighbourhood with a strong Turkish influence, where more and more artists are settling. It's a very diverse neighbourhood. You'll find everything from kebab stalls to small cafés and cultural spaces. I really like Mirage Bistrot, a former hairdressing salon transformed into a French-influenced restaurant, but also into a gallery where a number of exhibitions by artists from different backgrounds are held. The food is very healthy, often organic, even vegan, but hearty. You can enjoy succulent banana bread with nuts, delicious stews and a wonderful hibiscus iced tea. A little further on, in an Art Nouveau crematorium dating from 1912, is Mars, a cultural and concert venue with a very quiet restaurant and a pleasant garden. It's an unusual place, an oasis in the middle of Berlin, and a must-see.

In the Oranienburger Tor district, which I also love, I often go to House of Small Wonder, a café that's perfect for brunch. It's got a Berlin vibe that reminds me of Brooklyn, a mix that I love. When it comes to shopping, I always find pretty jumpers or originally cut canvas trousers at Hannes Rother. Nearby, I like to go for a drink at the Neue Odessa Bar, a very Berlin-style, slightly alternative place. If you continue along the Spree to the Museum Island, you can admire the statue of Nefertiti at the Neues Museum and the ancient Oriental frescoes at the Pergamon, with its breathtaking Ishtar Gate. But as an artist, I'm also a regular visitor to galleries. Among my favourites are Mehdi Chouraki and Max Hetzer, both in the Charlottenburg district, which regularly showcase promising young artists.

In Berlin, I also enjoy the music scene. Of course, a visit to Berlin without an evening at the Philharmonie isn't really complete. But I also enjoy Funkhaus, the 'radio house' of the former GDR, with its magnificent hall where quality concerts are given. Even though it's a bit out of the way, it's well worth the diversions, because it also gives you a chance to discover just how vast and diverse Berlin is, and that the city isn't limited to its iconic monuments."
