Among Switzerland's legendary hotels, the Palace Lucerne is the equal of the Hôtel des Bergues in Geneva, the Lausanne Palace and the Montreux Palace, opened in 1906 like its Lucerne counterpart. All these prestigious hotels have one thing in common combining Belle Epoque charm with the chic ambience of the Riviera.
Located close to the old town and overlooking Lake Lucerne, this century-old hotel is about to embark on a new lease of life. its takeover by the Mandarin Oriental luxury chainannounced three years ago. After a lengthy renovation by Iwan Bühler Architekten and Jestico + Whiles, the establishment will reopen its doors on 24 September, offering customers a contemporary decor blending in with the rich heritage of the site.
Elegance is therefore the order of the day in 136 rooms, including 48 suitesincluding a 133 m2 presidential suite. In addition to their setting inspired by the beauty of the Swiss landscape, most of the rooms have their own balcony or terrace, with views of the lake or mountains. What's more, several suites are extended by a panoramic rooftop terrace with 360-degree views of the surrounding panorama.
Historic reception rooms
As well as a wellness spa, the hotel is also an epicurean destination with four restaurants and bars overseen by Michelin-starred chef Gilad Peled. European gastronomic classics at MOzern Bar & Brasserie, Mediterranean cuisine at Quai 10 - located on a terrace overlooking the lake - and French haute cuisine at Colonnade: in addition to all these top-of-the-range restaurants, there is also an intimate Japanese restaurant with just six covers. Both the Japanese restaurant and the Colonnade will not open until the first quarter of 2023.
The Mandarin Oriental Palace Lucerne promises all its guests not only stays, but also exceptional events. Each of its four function rooms has been renovated and equipped with the latest technology, including the Salon alpin, with its original Belle Époque décor dating from 1906, and the Edelweiss ballroom. With a view of the lake, as it should be.
