The new generation of iPhones is now available, with Apple unveiling four new models: iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, but above all.., the two iPhone Pro models of particular interest to business travellers. And rightly so, because the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone Pro Max feature the very best of Apple's technology, and really stand out for their battery life, fluidity and photo and video capabilities. On the other hand, there have been no notable changes in terms of design, as the previous range of iPhone 12with its sharp edges and flat sides, which won over Apple afficionados last year.
It's a hard-wearing device, with ceramic shield glass protecting the screen and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. There is, however, a notch dedicated to the front camera for selfies and the rear camera. much more discreet facial recognition than the previous generation. However, it remains visible, whereas the competition in terms of premium smartphones has opted to integrate the sensor invisibly under the screen, as in the case of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Samsung. The Oled HDR screens on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone Pro Max feature a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch panel respectively. The result is screens that are brighter than the previous generation, but also, and above all, Pro Motion adaptive. This means that images are refreshed in real time depending on usage, whether it's traditional browsing or playing a video game. This refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which was already available on competing smartphones but posed a problem for Apple in terms of battery life, has now been successfully resolved, as we shall see.
The main innovation is the new range's hardware, with the new in-house A15 chip under the bonnet, not to mention the IOS 15 operating system. The whole package is packed with artificial intelligence for optimised recognition and fluidity of use. The resulting power not only maximises 5G connections, but also and above all the new image functionalities offered by the iPhone 13 Pro. New for Apple, both smartphones feature a night mode which works on the sensitivity of taking photos.
The rear camera unit comprises three 12 MP camera modules, offering some notable developments: a ultra-wide angle with a significantly enlarged aperture of f/1.8 with a new macro mode for shooting in impressive detail; a wide-angle lens, equivalent to 26mm, all with a stabilisation system; and above all a telephoto lens reserved for iPhone 13 Pro, and now with an X6 zoom. Enough to turn you into a real paparazzi!
Both photo and video modes feature an automatic Macro mode, but a future update will leave photographers free to make their own choices. Also worth noting is the possibility of using " photographic styles The result is an image that is "isolated", isolating each element of the shot so that the lighting and colourimetry can be finely tuned using artificial intelligence to give each shot even greater intensity.
The iPhone 13 Pro makes a splash
Another new feature is cinematic mode, the very title of which underlines the positioning of the new iPhone Pro. It's no coincidence that Apple invited Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow to speak at its presentation, to highlight the cinematic possibilities of the two Apple Pro models and, de facto, the new iPhone Pro. targeting video professionals. This will showcase both Cinematic and ProRes modes, the latter with its new codec coming in a forthcoming update before the end of the year.
