Consolidation work on the railway section in the Maurienne valley is proving more complicated than originally planned. A landslide had interrupted traffic since August.
Announced for November, the resumption of the railway line linking Paris to Turin and Milan has now been postponed until the end of June 2024. SNCF trains will have Chambéry as their final destination and, during the holidays, St. Michel de Maurienne. For Trenitalia, the rail link between Paris and Lyon is reduced to 3 daily frequencies. The trains will have to remain in maintenance in the Rhône-Alpes metropolis.
A temporary farewell to Trenitalia's Frecciarossa and SNCF's TGV high-speed trains in Milan will be barely offset by other European routes. The link via Switzerland through the Gotthard tunnel is interrupted following an accident. As for the rail link via Nice and Genoa, the length of the journey (over ten hours from Paris) makes it totally unattractive for business travellers. That leaves the good old plane!
