The obligation for each German region (Land) to adopt any new health regulations is forcing the government to postpone the introduction of new mandatory quarantine protocols for travellers from high-risk pandemic zones. These are listed by country by the Robert Koch Medical Institute, which is in charge of health management for covid.
The new health protection protocols are due to come into force on 8 November.. Originally, these new rules were to apply from 15 October.
The quarantine requirement will apply to people who have stayed in a country or region classified by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) as a risk area. during the ten days preceding their entry into Germany.
People will have to isolate themselves immediately during 10 days instead of 14 previously. However, the quarantine period may be reduced to five days following a new negative screening test. At the same time, travellers must leave their contact details on an application. Failure to do so will result in a very heavy financial penalty or imprisonment.
Binding measures within Germany too
No French traveller can escape this rule. Since 15 October, the Grand Est region has also been included as a high-risk area. by the Robert Koch Institut. Only cross-border workers can travel to Germany without a prior test. This exception will also apply to travellers in transit through Germany who will be staying for less than 24 hours.
There are also restrictions on travel within Germany. The Länder each apply different protective measures. And this is because of their prerogatives in health matters.
Certain regions now prohibit the possibility of staying in their territory. for people coming from a city or region where the pandemic is raging. This can be a real headache for business travellers linking two destinations in the same trip. For example, it is no longer possible to travel to Stuttgart and continue on to Munich with a hotel stay. Unless you produce a negative covid test less than 48 hours old.
