Radisson Group commits to "net zero emissions" by 2050

The Radisson Group has a clear ambition: to become the world's leading hotel chain. "net zero emissions" worldwide by 2050. Another major group, Accor, had already announced its commitment to climate issues at the beginning of last year. Similarly, Marriott also announced in September 2021 that it had sent its letter of intent to the Science Based Targets initiative.

Radisson's sustainable ambitions are also part of this partnership supported by the United Nations, which sets science-based emission reduction targets for companies. The group has announced that it has received approval of its Science Based Targets (SBT) to help limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2050. In line with the objectives set by COP 21, a number of milestones on the road to 'net zero' have been validated, including the Group's commitment to reduce its category 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 46 % by 2030emissions, using 2019 as the base year. With regard to scope 3, the Group has also committed to reducing its emissions from fuel and energy-related activities, as well as from franchise activities, by 28 %.

Among its existing initiatives in this area, Radisson announced a few months ago a 100 % carbon-neutral global meetings programme based on automatically offsetting the carbon footprint of every event and meeting held in its hotels.

Energy efficiency and sustainable construction

The Group has also embarked on its energy transition over the last decade, with efficiency gains of 30% announced over the period. Compared to the pre-covid period, Radisson has reduced its carbon emissions by 22 % per square metre.At the same time, its water footprint was reduced by 23 %. To go even further, the group has defined new construction guidelines - known as 'Build Planet' - for future establishments and renovations. Aligned with the LEED, BREAM and EDGE certifications, among the most reputed, these Build Planet hotels are built or renovated according to a series of eco-responsible conditions, including the use of sustainable materials and the efficient use of resources. At the same time, Radisson participates in a number of cross-industry initiatives such as Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality, supported by the World Travel & Tourism Council, and the Sustainability Hotel Alliance, in which most major hotel groups participate.
