TripIt monitors airport queues

Travel app TripIt has just added a new feature to its pro version. Users can now see how long they have to wait at security checks near their boarding gates.

For business travellers, security checks at airports are often a logistical headache, a waste of time and, above all, a painful process. There are good practices for getting through faster, such as luggage designed to be searched more quickly by officials. But there are limits. The TripIt travel applicationa subsidiary of Concurhas decided to make this part of the journey easier by adding a new feature to its business package. Launched on 24 January and called "Real-Time Security Wait Times", it allows you to find out in real time how much time you have to wait. the length of queues at security checks in real time.

Passengers can therefore find out where inspections are carried out most quickly and choose the best checkpoint for their boarding gate. The application also indicates the position from toilets, restaurants and shops near the corresponding gates. Frequent travellers can take advantage of this information in a variety of ways: whether to find out how long they will have to wait in the lounge, or to calculate the ideal moment for a last cigarette before boarding.

A practical new option from TripIt, but limited geographically

The technology behind this feature was developed by iinside, as reported on the website Traveler. iinside specialises in passenger flow management systems, based on both predictive data and real-time analysis. In the case of Tripit Pro, iinside relies on the "lidar" system, and claims an accuracy of up to 99 %. Similar technology is used by Mercedes-Benz to detect obstacles and stop the vehicle. While TripIt Pro users - who have therefore paid the 49 dollars This option is currently only available at the airports ofAustin, Denver, Orlando and Phoenix.

This new option is not the only advantage of the application's professional package. The premium version allows you to track direct flightsto know the state of its loyalty programmes and quickly find alternative flights in the event of long delays or cancellations. The free version features an interactive terminal map, which is handy for finding your way around unfamiliar airports quickly and efficiently.
