How many groups do you take to Ukraine each year?
Olga Sansone - Our agency specialises in Eastern Europe and, even more specifically, the emerging countries of the former USSR. These range from well-known countries like Poland and Russia to others like Siberia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Azerbaijan. Ukraine is one of my favourite destinations. We take ten to twelve groups there every year.
Do you really think people don't know?
O. S. - These countries are only just opening up to visitors, especially MICE, and are really little-known. This is particularly true of the French, whose history has little to do with this part of the world. Not so the Austrians, Germans, Swedes and, of course, the Russians.
What is the typical incentive for the French market?
O. S. - I'd say there are three, all departing from Kiev because of the flights. For the first programme, a visit to Kiev, then departure for Lviv, the country's cultural capital, with a diversion via the Carpathians. My second suggestion would be a tour of the Black Sea, its legendary cities such as Odessa, Yalta and Sebastopol, and seaside activities. Finally, we can combine the two types of trip by proposing a Kiev-Lviv-Odessa, with a very amusing overnight transfer by sleeper train.
Why choose Ukraine?
O. S. - It's a new destination, only 2? hours by plane from Paris, and the prices are fairly competitive. Lastly, because this country has a fabulous wealth of artistic and cultural treasures.
