Milan according to Ludovica Palomba

"As a self-respecting Milanese, I'm always on the lookout for good, creative restaurants. Last year, a superb place opened up in a former sawmill, Carlo & Camilla in Segheria, an industrial space that is both in its original state and at the cutting edge of fashion. Some carefully selected decorative elements and furniture, vintage chandeliers: it all adds a lot of style to the place! We dine at a huge table reminiscent of Italian family gatherings. This is currently one of the trendiest places in Milan, masterfully run by Emanuele Pollini, who draws on tradition to come up with some real culinary 'jokes', such as sage gnocchi with Jerusalem artichokes and liquorice. In the same district, there is also a two-star Michelin restaurant, Sadler, and soon a new restaurant by renowned chef Matias Perdomo.

A little further afield, in the lively Navigli district with its canals built during the Renaissance to transport the marble used to build the Duomo, I love meeting people at Rebelot del Pont. This is a recent address, opened by the owners of Al Pont de Ferr as a relaxed alternative to their Michelin-starred establishment. Chef Mauricio Zillo serves a cuisine full of originality, including sea urchin ice cream. Most of the wines are organic and the produce comes directly from small producers in the surrounding mountains or in southern Italy. It really is an extraordinary address!

When it comes to terraces, I'm partial to Ceresio 7, which opened in 2013 in a very Anglo-Saxon style. On the roof of a new building, it's a huge bar-restaurant with a fifties look, and an intimate atmosphere conducive to business meals. The pretty banquettes are reminiscent of American diners, but in a much more Italian spirit. Summer really is the best time to go. There are two large open-air swimming pools, with the Alps as a backdrop. Not far from there, towards the Porta Nuova business district, is 10 Corso Como. I love this place! This former garage was transformed in the 90s into a fashion boutique, restaurant, art gallery, bookshop and beautiful terrace. In fact, this is where the concept of the 'concept store' was coined. Here you'll find the 3 Rooms, a totally adorable mini hotel.

At the end of the street, in an inner courtyard, is Antonia Jannone's beautiful gallery, dedicated to art, design and architecture. In the historic centre, I like to recharge my batteries in the Brera Gardens. The same building houses the Pinacoteca di Brera, where you can admire Raphael, Titian and Caravaggio, as well as Francesco Hayez's Kiss. That's it! When it comes to shopping, I have a penchant for cutting-edge fashion boutiques like Antonia Milano, but I'm also a bookshop rat. And MilanoLibri, in front of La Scala, is a place where I could spend hours. In fact, I spend hours there..."
