DOSSIER - China: discover Shanghai and Hangzhou

After inaugurating an experimental free trade zone, Shanghai, China's economic capital, is opening more and more hotels, museums and trendy venues. It is also taking a closer interest in the environment, encouraging the use of clean vehicles and the construction of green buildings, although pollution peaks still plague its daily life. Luckily, 180km south of the megalopolis, bamboo forests and UNESCO-listed landscapes offer a breath of fresh air. At the centre of this 'green' China, Hangzhou, capital of silk and green tea, is also the city of Chinese private enterprise. This 'town' of almost nine million inhabitants is quietly prospering thanks to its non-polluting, ultra-innovative industries.
