Eurostar: business travel contributes to good 2014 results

Eurostar published its 2014 results on Wednesday, marked in particular by an increase in traffic (3%) to which business customers were no strangers. Business travel is said to have increased by 4% last year, mainly thanks to the buoyancy of the British economy.

A total of 10.4 million passengers travelled on the Eurostar network in 2014, according to figures released on 18 February by the railway company: a slight increase (+3%) on the 2013 financial year, during which Eurostar recorded traffic of 10.1 million. Business travellers contributed to these good results, with the annual report showing an increase in corporate customers (+4%) thanks to the "solid economic recovery in the UK", according to the press release. Next step: the arrival of the new trains, scheduled for the end of 2015. "Our new e320 train has entered its final test phase, and we plan to put it into commercial service at the end of this year," says Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar's Managing Director. "With these new trains, the modernisation of our stations and investments in our quality of service, our passengers will soon benefit from a complete transformation of their travel experience".
