A little growth for Paris airports in 2021

The ADP Group has announced the results for all its airports for 2021. Paris saw growth of +26.8 % in 2021. This represents 8.9 million more passengers than in 2020 and total passenger traffic of 41.9 million.

According to figures released on 17 January by the ADP group, the total traffic of all airports managed by ADP Group posted a an increase of 37.2 % in 2021, with 160.0 million passengers handled. This represents 45.6 % of group traffic in 2019.. However, results in Paris remain below those for the Group as a whole.

For Paris Airport alone, traffic is up by 26.8 % for 2021. That's 8.9 million passengers by 2020. With 41.9 million passengers, this figure represents 38.8 % of Paris Airport's traffic in 2019.

Over the past year, traffic at Paris-Charles de Gaulle is set to rise by 17.7 % in 2021, with 26.2 million passengers handledor 34.4 % of 2019 traffic. Paris-Orly did better, with the airport benefiting from the strong recovery in domestic and European traffic in the spring. The total number of passengers rose by 45.6 % in 2021. This represents 15.7 million passengers, or 49.4 % of 2019 traffic.

Results by cluster for Paris Airport in 2021

– International traffic (excluding Europe, including French overseas departments and territories) is up by 18.5 % compared with 2020, to 34.9 % of the 2019 level, due to growth in the following clusters: North America (+37.1 %), Africa (+35.6 %), Middle East (+20.9 %), Latin America (+3.7 %). By contrast, the Asia-Pacific region continued to decline (down 51.8 1Q3).. The closure of the Asian borders and the late reopening of the United States explain the slower growth of the Air France hub at CDG.
– Traffic in Europe (excluding France) is up by 35.2 % compared with 2020, to 37.8 % of the 2019 level;
– Traffic in mainland France is up by 26.6 % compared with 2020, to 52.7 % of the 2019 level. ;
– DROM-COM traffic (as part of international traffic) is up by 16.3 % compared with 2020, to 63.6 % of the 2019 level;
– The number of connecting passengers rose by 21.2 %. The connecting rate stood at 22.0 %, down 1.1 points on 2020.

There should be a marked improvement in 2022, although traffic is expected to remain low in January and February due to the Omicron variant. In December, the two Paris airports returned to a level of traffic equivalent to 64.5% in December 2019.
