A programme to speed up formalities has been set up with an initial full-scale test carried out on Tokyo Haneda airportwith the testing until the end of March of new electronic terminals that analyse in one minute all the information you need about immigration and customs formalities. To take advantage of this innovation, passengers must first enter all the necessary information on a specific site https://services.digital.go.jp/en/visit-japan-web/. You need to register on this site in English to use the service.
Once the information such as the passport number and the declaration of any taxable items has been completed, a QR code is issued. Travellers will use it at a dedicated terminal on arrival in Japan.
If the test at Haneda airport is successful, the system will be permanently installed in Haneda. It will also begin to be deployed at Osaka-Kansai and Tokyo-Narita airports this year.. Other international airports such as Fukuoka, Nagoya-Chubu, Okinawa and Sapporo-Chitose will also be equipped by 2025.
