"European Sleepera cooperative railway company formed by Dutch investorswill be working with the Czech private company RegioJet the launch of a new night train. In part, it would be in competition with the Nightjet network of the Austrian Federal Railways.
The future line would link Brussels to Prague, including stops in Amsterdam, Hanover, BerlinDresden and Prague. In a press release, the company announced that it intends to begin operations as soon as 2022 if it is approved by each competent authority. The line would start at three times a week in the first phase. It should eventually include a frequency daily.
This route is part of RegioJet's strategy to increase its presence on night rail routes. The company, which was set up in 2008, already operates a dense network of buses and now trains at Czech Republic and in Slovakia.
For several years now, RegioJet has been making Prague a hub for night trains. The company operates routes between Prague and Kosice (Slovakia's second largest city) as well as between Prague and Rijeka/Split (Croatia).
RegioJet also offers daytime services between Prague to Vienna and Bratislava. Four trains run between Prague and these two capitals every day. The private operator is also planning to launch a night service between Prague and Lvov (Western Ukraine) via Krakow and Katowice in Poland. RegioJet has announced that it intends to invest 77 million euros in the purchase of sleeper cars.
