While waiting for its first electrical applianceson the horizon 2028SAS intends to start the New Year with good resolutions in terms of more responsible travel. On Wednesday, the company announced the EuroBonus Conscious Traveler programme launched in January.
" SAS, like the aviation industry, is moving towards a more sustainable future, and we invite our customers to join us in this effort. "says Aron Backström, Vice-President of Product and Loyalty at SAS. " Together, we can move this major transformation by involving the entire ecosystem of airlines, manufacturers, policy-makers, suppliers and travellers themselves. The launch ofEuroBonus Conscious Traveler reflects this reality and is a contribution to thethe industry's objective of reducing CO2 emissions to zero by 2050 - perhaps our most important project to date "he continues.
So what will this contribution mean? All the details are not yet known - SAS will reveal more at the official launch in January - but we already know what it won't lead to... SAS will abandon the logic of compensationwhich experts have been criticising for several years. The company is even abandoning carbon offsetting from 1 December. " Rather than post-flight offsetting, SAS believes that the aviation industry needs to focus on reducing overall emissions. This means increasing the production of sustainable aviation fuels, which is currently very expensive, and other emerging technologies that will enable more sustainable flying from the outset. "says SAS management.
Ten steps on the path of the Conscious Traveler

The programme EuroBonus Conscious Traveler takes the form of a journey for responsible travellers, with the emphasis on training and action. Ten stages - minimum number of steps must be taken to become a "Conscious Travelerand see themselves reward for this status. Rewards that the company will also unveil in January next year. Among the initiatives unveiled by the company are thepurchase of biofuel (SAF) or environmentally-friendly products in the SAS EuroBonus shop. To make further progress towards responsible travel, passengers will also be able to reduce food waste ordering their meals in advance, or even foregoing certain meals.
" Through the Conscious Traveler initiative, we are giving our passengers a platform to actively show their support and help SAS on its journey towards a more sustainable future. "says Aron Backström. " By making more conscious choices, they are not only helping to reduce their own carbon footprint, but are also reaping well-deserved rewards for their commitment.
