François Hollande travelled to the Charente - to Villognon to be precise - to celebrate the completion of the works, which will lead to the launch of this new line this summer. From 2 July, business travellers will be able to make the Paris-Bordeaux link in 2 hours 05 minutes, compared with 3 hours 14 minutes at present.

It will therefore have taken five years, and almost €8 billion invested, to bring Paris closer to Bordeaux, and more generally to the greater west of France. "2017 will also see the commissioning of 2 other TGV lines to Brittany and to the Mediterranean," added François Hollande, adding in passing: "The TGV will be the first high-speed line to be built in France. We're not just doing this for France, but also for Europe, through the interconnection of networks." .
