The work carried out by SNCF Réseau is non-stop, some of it with significant implications for TGV and TER train traffic. The latest announcement is that SNCF plans to replace no fewer than 9 points at the entrance to Marseille Saint-Charles station in May. This will have an impact on the number of Inoui and Ouigo train services on this route, particularly the planned diversion of some TGV departures and arrivals to Aix-en-Provence TGV station. SNCF Réseau highlights that three periods are affected: from Thursday 14 May at 10pm to Sunday 17 May at 10am, from Saturday 23 May at 1am to Monday 25 May at 7am, and from Saturday 30 May at 1am to Sunday 31 May at 12pm.
Trenitalia is also cancelling several services
Work at Marseille station is obviously also impacting its competitor Trenitalia, which has been forced by SNCF Réseau to cancel its Frecciarossa services on several weekends. The carrier, which launched in June 2025 Direction the Phocaean City, will thus only be able to operate 2 or 3 high-speed trains per day instead of 4, mainly on the weekends of 15-16 May and 23 May. The first is thus marked by the cancellation of trains No. 6113 (departing from Gare de Lyon at 3:10 PM) and 6148 (departing from Marseille at 7:03 PM), the second by No. 6148.
Trenitalia informs us that they had no choice but to cancel these departures as the alternative solutions considered with departures and arrivals at Aix-en-Provence TGV, Avignon TGV or Marseille-Blancarde stations could not be implemented, « due to lack of capacity » according to SNCF Réseau. It should also be noted that Avignon TGV station will not be served on 24 May by Frecciarossa trains 6147 (departing Paris-Lyon at 6:09 am) and 6113. Gare de Paris-Lyon will be 100% closed from 30 April to 3 May%
But before Marseille, SNCF has announced the closure of Paris Lyon and Paris Bercy stations between 8 PM on April 30th and early afternoon on May 3rd due to work in Paris on signalling boxes and access routes to a future TGV maintenance centre. These works over this long weekend will result, according to SNCF, in only 45% of services% to Marseille and the Mediterranean line being maintained, operated from Marne-la-Vallée Chessy, Paris-Montparnasse, Paris-Est, Paris CDG-TGV, Versailles Chantiers and Paris Pont de Rungis stations. As for Trenitalia, the Italian company has also been forced to cancel most of its services, with only a few daily departures and arrivals at Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy station.
