Interview with Florence Richard, manager of the Challenger Event agency

Did you recommend Dubai as a destination yourself or was this a request from your customer?

Florence Richard - We agreed. The client wanted to do something extraordinary to celebrate its 20th anniversary. And as they had an exceptional budget for this anniversary, the destination was an obvious choice. Taking part in an event in Dubai certainly makes an impression.

Specifically, what are Dubai's strengths?

F. R. - It's still a bit of a crazy destination. All those buildings, the imagination that has developed around them, the sea, the desert... It's incredible. There's also the quality of the infrastructure, particularly for conventions and congresses. Everything really is possible. In fact, particularly by choosing Atlantis, the destination is as much for business as it is for leisure. It's in tune with the times. Not to mention the quality of the welcome, which is both warm and highly professional. Last but not least, the destination is very safe. It's very clear that there's hardly any risk of having your mobile phone stolen in Dubai.

What do you think are the must-haves?

F. R. - The city itself, but also the desert... Dinner in the desert is unforgettable. They put on falconry demonstrations and shows, and you really get the impression that they're giving it their all. There are also the shopping malls, the ski slope with a chalet and a fake wood fire, all the extravagances that have made Dubai's image. And of course, to counterbalance all that, there's also old Dubai and its souks, particularly the gold souk. On the other hand, I'm not crazy about the beaches, which are too artificial for my taste.

Did you find any negative points?

F. R. - It's not a cheap destination. And above all, nothing is negotiable. The prices are what they are, and we don't discuss them.

What's the best feedback you've had from customers?

F. R. - The hotel, especially the aquarium, which had them hooked from the moment they arrived, but also the dolphin diving, and the helicopter ride for those who took it. And of course the evening in the desert. It was magical.
