This is it: the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are taking shape at RATP and Ile-de-France Mobilités through soaring fares for metro and other public transport services in the region. Of course, the announcement was made last December but some will still be taken aback by the increase of almost 100% in the metro ticket.
Although free admission was initially provided for in the bid documents, this increase has now been cancelled. decided by the Ile-de-France region to offset the costs of improved transport services in the Paris region and the hiring of additional staff. The increase therefore concerns occasional travellers and tourists attending the Games. Subscribers - over 5 million people - are not affected by the increase.
From €2.15 to €4.00 for an individual metro ticket
Here are the main fare changes, which will apply until 8 September, when the Paralympic Games come to an end.
- The t+ ticket (for metro, tram and bus) are now sold for €4 instead of €2.15. A book of 10 tickets now costs €32 instead of €17.35.
- Train/RER ticket outside Paris (known as Origine Destination) is now €6 each (instead of the maximum €5) and €4.80 for a book of 10 tickets;
- Bus tickets to Roissy and Orly airports are increased to €16;
- LNavigo passes day and week are not available during the games period. Neither is the Paris Visite package.
For travellers arriving from Paris airports, the most advantageous package is the Passe Paris 2024 passlaunched to coincide with the Olympic Games. It offers unlimited travel on the entire Paris region transport network at a single fare. This includes access to the two Paris airports.
This Paris 2024 Pass is available for €16. per day for unlimited travel throughout the Ile-de-France region. It decreases with the number of days taken. For example, it now only costs €10 per day for 7 consecutive days.
