Set slightly back from the city's historic centre, Giacomo is nonetheless a veritable institution in the Lombard capital. It comes in two versions: the restaurant - elegant but not at all formal - and, just next door, the bistro, darker and cosier.

It's a place in search of innovation, both in the kitchen - run by Gualtiero Marchesi and his 'total cuisine' - and in the setting designed by architect Ettore Mocchetti. On the à la carte menu, Milanese specialities are served alongside the chef's own dishes, and 'sushi all'italiana' can be enjoyed at the bar.

Bars
Milan has seen a proliferation of recreational areas designed by the big names in fashion. Particularly prominent: the Trussardi Coffee and its large rectangular bar in luminous marble, right next to La Scala. The place can be visited during the day, for a quick lunch, or at aperitivo time and later if you feel like it.
 
Another big attraction on the new nightlife scene is Dolce& Gabbana Gold, a large all-in-one bar, bistro and restaurant in Piazza Risorgimento. The colour code is faithful to the title, with the assurance of a feast for the eyes in terms of both décor and audience.
