The French group is preparing to open 30 hotels in Africa between now and 2016, which will bring its offer to 22,000 rooms on the continent. Accor's aim is to strengthen its leadership position in this market, where it currently operates 114 hotels with more than 17,000 rooms in 18 countries. As part of this expansion, Accor is targeting several markets in particular: Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Angola and Kenya.
This desire for growth has already materialised in 2012 with the opening of several Ibis hotels, in Dakar in Senegal, Bata in Equatorial Guinea, and soon in Lagos in Nigeria. In addition, the budget brand has opened in Tunis and Constantine alongside Novotel. On the luxury side, Accor recently opened the Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea & Spa and Sofitel Casablanca Tour Blanche.
