2011 Barometer: sustained growth for the European hotel industry

The year 2011 saw an increase in hotel prices across Europe (+8%): this is the main finding of the annual trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) published on Friday.

According to the hotel rate index published by trivago, the upward trend began in February 2011 and continued throughout the year. The increase, which amounts to +6% compared with 2009 and even +8% compared with 2010, is driven in particular by France, which is still one of the most expensive countries in Western Europe. In fact, the French hotel industry is in 2nd place in terms of price.th in the trivago rankings, well behind Switzerland and ahead of the UK.

Conversely, Spain - where the most expensive average fare of the year remains limited to 107 euros - Portugal (108 euros) and to a lesser extent Greece (121 euros during the summer) are among the least expensive destinations for European travellers. Last but not least, Paris, Nice and Cannes are unsurprisingly the most expensive national destinations. The capital remains in the lead with an average of 204 euros in the autumn.
