After updating two old glories of the global hotel industry, the Peace Hotel in Shanghai and the Savoy in London, the Fairmont Group is setting its sights on emerging markets. Five new hotels are due to open in 2012 in Jaipur in India, Kiev in Ukraine, Baku in Azerbaijan, Manila in the Philippines, in the financial district of Makati, and Dubai. These will be joined by others currently under development in Fujairah and Riyadh in the Middle East, Nanjing, Chengdu and Taiyuan in China, and Moscow.
Starting next March, Fairmont will offer Jaipur, marking the Canadian group's first steps in India, a 199-room hotel with extensive meeting space. The Fairmont Kiev, in the historic centre of the Ukrainian capital, will also feature 257 rooms and a wide range of event solutions. And in Baku, the Fairmont with its 318 rooms and suites will overlook the city from the top of the futuristic Flame Towers skyscraper. Most of the hotels being opened will offer the Fairmont Gold VIP service, one of the group's trademarks for business travellers.
