Created by Enrique Sarasola, the group offers a concept of 'cheap and chic' hotels. The modern, designer Room Mate hotels, each small and with its own personality, offer an alternative to top-of-the-range establishments for visiting guests looking for the essentials - free wifi, a breakfast buffet included, available until midday - in a trendy setting and a city-centre location, allowing them to immerse themselves in local life. The group now has 15 members. And, after expanding into Spain, the Room Mate family has welcomed its first cousins from America.
In 2008, the takeover of the QT hotel, now the Room Mate Grace, gave the group a place in the heart of Manhattan, a first opening in the United States followed by another prestigious location, South Beach in Miami, with the Waldorf Towers boutique hotel. More recently, the hotel chain has set out to conquer the Spanish-speaking world, with two openings in recent months in Mexico City and Buenos Aires, both designed by Tomas Alia. 2010 also saw the brand arrive in Spain's second city, Barcelona. Future projects include a new hotel in Madrid and the expansion of the concept in Europe, starting with Paris.
