The price surge that hit the European hotel industry in the autumn of 2011 came to an end in October, according to figures from the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) published on Monday. The symbol of this lull is Paris, where the average price per night is back below the €200 mark (-9% to €186). Lyon (-6% to 108 euros) and Marseille (-5% to 111 euros) have not escaped the fall, which extends beyond France's borders: according to the monthly hotel price barometer, the price of a night in a standard double room in a major European city is significantly down on September (-7% on average). Barcelona and Berlin recorded some of the biggest rate falls in the month (-18%, to 147 and 98 euros respectively). The index published by Trivago nevertheless points out that the year-on-year comparison shows rising rates, particularly in Geneva (+23%), London (+21%) and Paris (+6%).
